Tourbillon was alive and kicking yesterday on a night it has experienced all too rarely in recent years. Didier Tholot's men dominated Grasshopper in front of a large, noisy crowd to win 3-0. The Sédunois are now through to the last 16, and look forward to meeting their next opponents.

As Didier Tholot said in his press conference on Thursday, he had a plan to upset a Zurich team who are going through a complicated period with a very mixed start to the championship. His players followed his plan, and it worked perfectly on a near-perfect evening. From the outset, the home side took control of the game, conceding very few chances. The only real situation for the Grasshoppers in the first half came after a misunderstanding between Joël Schmied and Timothy Fayulu. Fortunately, it had no dramatic consequences. Very disciplined, the Sédunois waited for the right moment to hurt their opponents. In the 23rd minute, Dejan Sorgic found himself in the perfect situation to force Kuttin into a save. In the end, the opening goal came just when everyone thought the two teams were going to go to tea on a goalless draw. From a corner, Dejan Sorgic turned and struck to open the scoring. FC Sion deservedly took the lead.

In the second half, the Valaisans quickly broke the deadlock. In the 56th minute, Dejan Sorgic took advantage of a poor deflection to score twice. The Sion number 9 scored his first double for FC Sion and his third goal in two Swiss Cup games. The rest of the match was totally controlled by FC Sion, who never gave Grasshopper a minute's hope. The league gap between the two sides never existed last night. Finally, with seven minutes of added time running out, Reto Ziegler sealed the score at 3-0 from the penalty spot.

Tourbillon was alive and kicking, and enjoyed a memorable evening that will be remembered for many years to come. Didier Tholot's team took their fans along with them, and at the end of the match were treated to a wonderful communion with their fans. In front of more than 10,000 spectators, FC Sion achieved a benchmark match which should serve them well before a trip to Schaffhausen and three matches against direct rivals (Thun, Neuchâtel, Wil).
