In Carouge, in a match that looked like a real trap against a fine team with plenty of experience in the competition, the Valaisans went on to win 1-3 and earn a place in the next round. The difference came in the second half, with the two teams still neck and neck after the first 45 minutes!

However, FC Sion looked to have done the hard part when Théo Berdayes opened the scoring early on (8th). It was the young Valaisan's first goal of the season. Without too much difficulty, he was able to break through the Geneva defence before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the back of the net. The Carouge side were quiet at the start of the game, but as the minutes ticked by, their intensity increased and they finally created a huge opportunity in the 24th minute. First Caslei saw his shot deflected wide, then Simbakoli was saved at the very last moment in the Valais area. The Sédunois were struggling in the game and had a chance from a set-piece. Ziegler's powerful free-kick (34th) struck the bar. Unfortunately, Didier Tholot's men conceded an equaliser in the 38th minute through Simbakoli. By teatime, the two teams were evenly matched, and in the end it all seemed rather logical.

The Sédunois came back from the break with much better intentions and initially came close to going behind. However, the Valaisan defence ducked perfectly at the last moment. Fortunately, Felder did not send the ball into the back of the net from five metres out in an almost empty net. Finally, in the 54th minute, Théo Berdayes got on the end of a powerful cross from Nias Hefti to head in at the far post and score his first brace for his club. Still not safe from a Geneva comeback, the Valaisans finally broke the deadlock in the 77th minute. Sorgic scored his first goal in an official match when he was set up well by Lavanchy. At 1-3, it was all over and FC Sion had booked their place in the next round against an enterprising Geneva side with an interesting style of play.

At the end of the game, Théo Berdayes underlined the quality of their opponents: "For me, Carouge are a very good Promotion League team who play well. Perhaps what made the difference tonight was that we scored every time at the start of the half. Personally, I didn't have my best game, but I finished with a brace that gives me even more confidence. Sometimes you have a really good game and you don't score. Tonight it was the other way around. For Didier Tholot, the most important thing was to stay alive: "Against an opponent like that, the match was difficult, that's for sure. When you draw Carouge in the first round of the Swiss Cup, you know what to expect. We struggled at the end of the first half, but in the end we won. The players who came on tonight made a huge contribution. I'm also pleased for Dejan Sorgic. He does a remarkable job for the team and today he was rewarded with a goal too.

Next week, FC Sion return to the Challenge League with a trip to Nyon on Friday (19:30) to take on newly promoted Stade Nyonnais. The Vaudois side exited the Swiss Cup last night after losing to FC Lancy (2nd Inter League).
