Mission accomplished for the Valaisans. They won their last game of the year and will now spend the festive season at the top of the Challenge League. It wasn't all plain sailing against the bottom club, but the 2-1 scoreline is worth remembering.

Didier Tholot's men struggled in the first half, failing to create any dangerous situations despite a few long-range efforts. However, FC Schaffhausen opened the scoring just before the quarter-hour mark (12th) through Marleku. The Valaisans responded with a shot from Bua that Enzler parried (21st). The biggest chance of the game came on the half-hour when Lika went close to beating his own goalkeeper with a superb volley from a cross.

The equaliser finally came on the stroke of half-time after 20 seconds. Ali Kabacalman fired into the top corner of the Schaffhausen keeper's net to level the scores. The goal boosted the Sédunois and gave their opponents a knock on the head. Finally, quite logically, just after the hour mark, Dejan Sorgic made it 2-1. Despite a few chances to kill the game off, the Sédunois were not to be troubled too much.

With this win, Didier Tholot's men are guaranteed to spend the festive period at least level on points with Thun at the top of the Challenge League. With 37 points from 18 games, the Valaisans have had a good first round, conceding just one defeat. And FC Sion's coach has reportedly signed up for the job in June. You have to remember where this team came from. Reboosted by the arrival of Didier Tholot, the players still have a spring in their step to make up for this year's relegation.

FC Sion wishes you all a wonderful festive season and thanks you for your support, in victory or defeat, throughout the year!
