The trip to the Berformance Arena had all the makings of a trap for Didier Tholot's FC Sion. The Valaisans were almost taken by surprise after a first half below par. Fortunately, the second half proved to be the right response. FC Sion dominated the last 45 minutes and could have taken all three points.

When the game kicked off, FC Sion's French coach fielded exactly the same eleven as for their dazzling Swiss Cup victory over Grasshopper. In the very first minute, Timothy Fayulu was forced to intervene in a Schaffhausen effort that was too centred. This spoke volumes about FC Schaffhausen's intentions, which were far from defensive in the opening minutes. The midfield battle raged on, offering little in the way of entertainment to the 1,300-strong crowd. Finally, as is often the case in such matches, the opening goal came from a set-piece. In the 24th minute, Kamber headed in a perfectly struck free-kick to open the scoring for FC Schaffhausen. Sion's first reaction came in the 31st minute, when Kevin Bua's powerful shot was saved for a corner by Enzler. FC Sion's biggest opportunity of the first half came five minutes later. When Théo Bouchlarhem had to face the goalkeeper alone, he struck directly at the keeper and lost his duel.

Trailing at the break, Didier Tholot reacted by making a change, bringing on Kabacalman for Chipperfield. In the 60th minute, Dejan Sorgic's first league goal rewarded the dominance of the first 15 minutes of the second half. The equaliser boosted the Valaisans, who came within a whisker of 1-2 when Kabacalman's effort crashed against the Schaffhausen crossbar. The Valaisans continued to dominate the game, but with Joel Schmied's header cleared off the line (78th), there were no clear-cut chances.

In the end, FC Sion took a point against Schaffhausen and had to relinquish their lead to FC Thun, level on points with FC Wil. On Monday, the still-unbeaten Sédunois will have the opportunity to overtake the Bernese players when the Oberland club visit Tourbillon. We hope to see many of you there to support our players in this Challenge League summit clash.
