"We did the job, but nothing more. That was Didier Tholot's summary of Sédun's qualification for the quarter-finals of the Swiss Cup. The Valais coach was satisfied with his team's qualification, but would have liked to see them score more goals (they had the chances) and, above all, not concede.

On a very difficult, waterlogged pitch, the Sédunois never wavered during the match. After a period of clear domination, Liam Chipperfield opened the scoring with a magnificent curling shot (27th). Didier Tholot's men made the breakthrough within three minutes of the restart, after a ten-minute break. Nias Hefti made it 0-2 and Liam Chipperfield scored twice. By half-time, the Sédunois had all but booked their place in the next round.

In the second half, the visitors created a number of chances. Unfortunately, either the opposing keeper (who was very good yesterday) stood in his way, or the Sedun strikers were too imprecise. In the end, Reto Ziegler (74th), Abdel Zagré (85th) and Cristian Souza (93rd) added to the scoreline. In the meantime, the valiant Geneva team had been able to salvage some pride with a goal from Jan Kaye (79th). A goal was celebrated as a victory for this small second-league club, who enjoyed a wonderful evening. In addition to their memories of the pitch, they left the Stade des Arbères under a wave of honor from the Valais staff and players, and went home with FC Sion shirts.

The most important thing is that FC Sion are back in the quarter-finals of the Swiss Cup, where they were knocked out last year by FC Lugano. With this success in Onex, the Valais club can look forward to a wonderful spring. Their opponents will be announced this evening when the draw is made at the end of the day's duels. The match will be played at the end of February.
