FC Sion took advantage of the international break on Friday to play a friendly against FC Lucerne. The Valais outfit lost 2-1 at the Swissporarena.

The facts

Despite getting off to a good start, the Valaisans had to concede just after the quarter-hour mark. After a handball inside the sixteen-yard box, Grbic was able to convert a penalty whistled by Mr Drmic. From then on, Sion were attacking and playful. Didier Tholot's men created a number of chances in the first half and at the start of the second, but were unable to get back into the game.

It was not until the 66th minute that their hard work was rewarded with a goal from a free-kick by Liam Chipperfield. The Valais side could even have doubled their lead a few minutes later had Zagré found the target in a one-on-one with Lucerne keeper Vasic.

Late on, the home side took the lead on one of their few chances of the second half. In the end, FC Sion lost 2-1 in a match in which they more than held their own!
