FC Sion take on FC Zürich on Sunday in the eighth matchday of the season. After Lugano last Sunday, the Valais outfit are once again taking on a league powerhouse.
A week after picking up an excellent point against Lugano in Tourbillon, FC Sion travel to Zurich to take on FC Zürich, the current leaders of the Crédit Suisse Super League. Speaking to the media on Friday morning, Didier Tholot was satisfied with his charges' week of training. ‘We recovered well after Sunday's match and it's been a good week. The lads are interested and concentrated. They know we'll have to do better than we did on our last few away games.
Top of the table, level on points with FC Luzern and FC Lugano, FCZ have taken 14 points from seven games this season. Ricardo Moniz's men have lost just once this season. That was in midweek against St. Gallen (4-1). ‘Zürich are a leader who make a huge impact and win a lot of duels. They're a very good team. We're going to have to be strong, but I know we have what it takes to give them a run for their money,’ says Didier Tholot.
FC Sion best defence in the league
Sion have made a good start to the season, and the statistics tend to prove it. With just six goals conceded, FC Sion have the best defence in the country after seven games. The Valais outfit have even conceded just one goal at home to Tourbillon, an impregnable fortress since the start of the season.
‘We have fantastic supporters
Away from home, FC Sion are finding it more difficult. After a spectacular opening victory over YB at the Wankdorf, the ‘Red and Whites’ lost to Lucerne (1-0) and GC (3-1). For defender Nias Hefti, this difference has to be erased, but can nonetheless be explained. ‘It comes down to details, little mistakes that need to be corrected. Nevertheless, it's clear that our fans in Tourbillon help us a lot. We have fantastic supporters! Now we have to make the most of that away from home.
Pierrick Moulin and Kevin Bua injured
The news had been circulating for a few days and was unfortunately confirmed by Didier Tholot in the press conference. Pierrick Moulin, who went off injured last Sunday against Servette with the U21s, has ruptured the cruciate ligaments in his knee. The young Valaisan will probably have to stay away from the pitch for several months. ‘We have to get behind him and support him. I've always said that we need to be a united and supportive family. That has to be confirmed in these more complicated times,’ said the French coach.
Kevin Bua, who has a minor calf injury, will not be available to the Sedun staff for the trip to Letzigrund either.
Buoyed by their solid defensive display last Saturday, FC Sion take on Zurich this Sunday at the Stade du Letzigrund. After two successive away defeats, the Valais outfit are looking to reverse the trend!
