Matchday 26 of the Challenge League sees a top-of-the-table clash in Tourbillon. Leaders FC Sion host second-placed FC Thun. A win for the Valais outfit would take them eight points clear in the standings.
The context
FC Sion have only lost once this season in all competitions, and that was in September against... FC Thun. In fact, since resuming in January, the Valais outfit have achieved a near faultless record. Last Friday, Didier Tholot's men drew 0-0 at the end of a hard-fought match in which the Sedun players were very tired. A week later, FC Sion have a five-point lead over FC Thun, who beat Wil. A win in Tourbillon on Friday could extend that lead.
The opposition
FC Thun have also made a good start to 2024. Despite losing a few points here and there, the Thun outfit are keeping pace with FC Sion. Mauro Lustrinelli's side won 2-1 against FC Wil on Saturday to take their tally for 2024 to 14 points and 51 in the standings. The second-best team in the league in both attack (48 goals scored) and defence (29 goals conceded), the Bernese have never lost to FC Sion this season.
The stakes
FC Thun and FC Sion have been neck and neck since the start of the 2023-2024 season. The top two have a lead of almost twenty points over the rest of the table. Although there are still some ten matchdays to go after the Berno-Valais encounter, this match is of particular importance to both clubs and their fans.

A minute's silence will be observed before the match in memory of those who died on the Col de la Tête Blanche.

The stadium gates are due to open at 19:00 for the North tier and 19:15 for the other sectors.
