FC Sion finally return to the Stade de Tourbillon. In their first home game in 2024, the Valais outfit host FC Aarau on Friday at 8.15pm. The aim is simple: to stay top of the table!

The context

The Valaisans got their 2024 campaign off to the perfect start last Friday in Wil. Didier Tholot's men won 4-1 in style, thanks to strikes from Sorgic, Chouaref, Chipperfield and Ziegler. After this convincing victory on the artificial turf of St. Gallen, the Valaisans returned to the turf this week at the Riddes training centre to prepare for their return 'home' in the best possible conditions.

The opposition

FC Aarau are in fine form at the start of the year. Alexander Frei's side have won twice since the start of the season. On Friday evening, they beat FC Vaduz 1-0, before following up with a 2-1 win in the cantonal derby against FC Baden. This rematch formed part of matchday 16 of the league season. In the standings, the Brügglifeld outfit have 26 points and are now third from bottom.

The stakes

Last weekend, Sédun took advantage of a draw between Thun and Bellinzona to take the lead in the Challenge League, two points adrift of second place. A win at home on Friday would confirm their lead and ensure that they are top of the table at the end of matchday 20. Alex Frei's side, meanwhile, are aiming to cling on to the top three and close the gap on FC Wil, who have the same number of points.
