And here we are. The Swiss Cup is back in Tourbillon. FC Sion host BSC Young-Boys in the quarter-finals on Thursday evening in a clash between the leaders of the Super League and Challenge League.

Background

FC Sion have a perfect record in the league, with fifteen points from five games. Didier Tholot's men are seven points clear of second-placed FC Thun. Last weekend, FC Schaffhausen rose to the challenge with a convincing 4-0 win at the Berformance Arena.

FC Sion, meanwhile, are in the best possible frame of mind having lost just once in all competitions this season. Against the reigning Swiss champions and last season's Cup winners, the dream is within their grasp.

To prepare for this match, the Sédunois will travel to Leukerbad on Wednesday for a short team 'tune-up'. The aim is to prepare in the best possible conditions for what will be one of the most important matches of the season.

The opponent

Leaders of the Super League standings, the Bernese lost to Servette in Sunday's top-flight clash. The result means that the league table is now tighter than ever. With eight games remaining in the regular season, the Wankdorf outfit are four points clear of Servette. The suspense remains intact.

On the European stage, YB put in a solid performance against Sporting CP in Portugal last Thursday. Third in their Champion's League group and qualified for the C3 Play-Offs, Raphaël Wicky's men lost 4-2 on aggregate, first in Berne and then in Lisbon.

The stakes

The stakes could not be simpler. Eight teams remain in the Swiss Cup. Only four will remain on Thursday evening. Zurich, Lugano, Servette, Delémont, Winterthur, YB, Basel and Sion are all vying for a place in the semi-finals.
